So. The decision is made.
They say that is the first step. Make up your mind. And that’s what I’ve done. After five amazing, life-changing, eye-opening years in Manchester, the time has come for me to move on. Lately, I’ve been stuck in my memories here. Memories of people long gone, studies finished, and friends lost. The happiness that this city once held for me has started to fade away.
Therefore it is time to leave. Today I decided that I am finally going to make a round-the-world trip. For years I’ve been dreaming of saying these words, and now that I write them it’s almost surreal. It’s like when I had my tattoo done: I am telling everyone I can so I know I won’t back out. This blog is the epitome. The second I hit publish, there is no turning back without losing face.
Over the next few weeks I’ll post about my plans and their progress. For now, they’re mainly dreams. But dreams are what it’s all about and thus that’s where I’ll start.
Let me leave you with the quote that first inspired me to go, almost exactly a decade ago now. In the words of Mark Twain:
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do, than by the ones you did do.
So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails.
Explore. Dream. Discover.”
